As an academic hospitalist, the exposure to a wide variety of pathology, training in a welcoming and teaching atmosphere with balance between autonomy and supervision, and providing room to take a teaching role to practice and advance in academic careers, together made my transition from a trainee to a practitioner and teacher very smooth.

How did ACMC IM Residency prepare you for where you are in your career now?

Strong training in internal medicine, knowing how to handle sick patients, admitting and discharging in a high turnover setting like our observation unit allowed me to seamlessly adjust to the life of a hospitalist. I feel like training at Christ helped me build a lot of confidence in handling all kinds of patients as a new attending

Hospitalist at University of Texas Health Sciences at Houston

How did ACMC IM Residency prepare you for where you are in your career now?
It taught me how to handle a large patient volume that was complex at the same time. I now work at an even large institution than ACMC and if it weren’t for my training, it would be easy to get overwhelmed by how sick the patients are and by the sheer numbers. Luckily, ACMC always had a good combination of bread and butter cases as well as the zebras preparing for a career almost anywhere.

How did ACMC IM Residency prepare you for where you are in your career now?
ACMC provided a solid foundation of training. I was more prepared after graduating than other colleagues due to the complexity of cases and volume exposed to at ACMC. I cherish the network of mentors and relationships that were built that I still rely on today for advice and guidance. It is quite the opportunity to match at ACMC.

The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Advocate Christ offers a comprehensive medical training that will prepare graduates well for both careers in academic and community medicine. The clinical instructors at ACMC are knowledgeable, encouraging and approachable. Graduates of ACMC will feel comfortable managing complex patients based on their extensive experience in ACMC's intensive care unit and general wards.
