  • MICU: 1-2 mo
  • Night Float: 4-6 wks
  • Electives: 3-4 mo

  • Gen Med Floor: 2-3 mo
  • MICU: 1-2 mo
  • Night Float: 4-6 wks
  • Electives: 3-4 mo
  • Observation unit: 1-2 mo
  • Vacation: 4 wks
PGY-III
  • Gen Med Floor: 2-3 mo
  • MICU: 1-2 mo
  • Night Float: 4-6 wks
  • Electives: 3-4 mo
  • Observation unit: 1-2 mo
  • Vacation: 4 wks

General Medical Floors
  • 3 traditional floors teams, each consisting of:
    • Faculty attending physician
    • 1 managing senior resident and 2 interns
    • 2 - 3 medical students
    • 1 additional dedicated "Teaching Resident"
  • 1 Senior Resident floor team simulating a hospitalist schedule (7 days on, 7 days off)
  • No overnight (24-hour) call for any intern or resident
  • Strict adherence to all ACGME caps and restriction
  • An average daily census of 10 - 15 patients per team
  • Unique "Drip-Distribution" admission system designed to decrease burn-out
  • 1 day per week incorporated as a non-admitting day
  • Dedicated pharmacists and social worker for resident teams


​Medical Intensive Care Unit
  • Two ICU teams, each consisting of:
    • 2 senior residents and 3-4 interns
    • Critical care attending
  • Residents are exposed to a wide array of complex pathology in one of the nation’s busiest Medical Intensive Care Units
  • An abundant opportunity for procedures performed by residents
    • Central venous line and hemodialysis line insertion
    • Arterial line insertion
    • "Code Blue" cardiopulmonary arrest & resuscitation
    • Endotracheal intubation
    • Thoracentesis and chest tube insertion
    • Bedside transthoracic echo & ultrasound
    • Pulmonary artery catheter insertion (Swan-Ganz catheter)
    • Transvenous pacemaker placement
    • Paracentesis
    • Lumbar puncture
    • And more...
  • Procedure/simulation workshops for invasive procedures and airway management training
  • Daily multidisciplinary rounding with intensivists, pharmacy, respiratory care, therapy services (PT, OT), nursing, & nutrition support
  • Dedicated ICU lectures by intensivists, medical subspecialists, and pharmacists
  • No overnight (24-hour) call for any intern or resident

​​Night Float​
  • 3 teams: General Medical Floor,  ICU, and Observation unit
  • Residents and interns are on a schedule of 6 nights/week for 2 week block (total of 4-6 weeks per year)
  • General Medical Floor team consists of 1 senior resident and 2 interns
  • ICU team consists of 2 senior residents and 1 intern
  • Observation unit team consists of 1 senior resident
  • Intensivists on-site 24 hours for teaching and procedure supervision


​Observation Unit
  • Outpatient medicine with the robust resources of an inpatient hospital setting
  • Encompasses the management of select patients for up to 48 hours to assess their need for inpatient admission
  • Common conditions cared for: CHF exacerbation, DVT/PE, atrial fibrillation, chest pain, dizziness, syncope, TIA, back pain, nausea/vomiting, viral gastroenteritis 
  • 1 team consisting of 4 senior residents, where 2 residents work per day while 2 residents are off
  • In a 2 week period, each resident works:
    ​5 weekdays and 2 weekend days

Continuity Clinic at Adult Medicine Center
  • State-of-the-art outpatient clinic facility
  • Residents and interns see patients in the clinic
    ​1 half-day per week
  • 4:1 resident to attending ratio
  • Full complement of ancillary staff to minimize non-educational duties
  • Epic EMR for easy prescribing/orders
  • Dedicated on-site nutritionist and behavioral health support

Sub-specialty and Elective Rotations
  • Core subspecialty rotations all done on-site at ACMC
  • Optional elective experiences available in a variety of other subspecialties including:
    • Advanced Heart  Failure, Transplant Cardiology and Pulmonary Hypertension 
    • Echocardiography & Interventional Cardiology
    • Dermatology 
    • Interventional Pulmonology
    • Anesthesia
    • Ultrasound
    • Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology
    • Wound Care 
    • Physical Medicine &Rehabilitation 
  • No home call and full 2-day weekend on all subspecialty and elective rotations
  • 1 half-day off per week for protected study time
  • Opportunities available for elective rotations at outside institutions
