How to apply

ACMC Internal Medicine Program Requirements

Thank you for your interest in our program! We look forward to reviewing your application and getting to know you more. We are proud to conduct a wholistic review process of our candidates that looks at all aspects of their life and accomplishments.

We only accept applications through ERAS for the Internal Medicine (Categorical and Preliminary) programs.  Applications are reviewed upon receipt through ERAS and interview invitations are sent on a rolling basis. Candidates will be contacted to set up an interview via Thalamus interview scheduling software. Interviews will be conducted via a virtual platform and will begin in November and conclude in January. The application deadline is November 1, 2022. Only J-1 visas are sponsored by our program.

The following items are required in order to be reviewed by the selection committee and considered for an interview:
  • Completed ERAS Application, which should include:
    • Personal statement
    • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (Dean's letter)
    • Medical school transcript
    • USMLE or COMLEX test score transcripts
      • Successfully passing USMLE Step I and/or COMLEX Level I is required prior to applying to the program.  However, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Step/Level II does not have to be completed by the time of the initial application submission.
  • Letters of recommendation
    • Categorical Internal Medicine Applicants:
      • In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we only require 2 letters:  1 clinical letter of recommendation from an IM faculty + 1 department of medicine summary.  One optional letter of recommendation could be from clinical faculty or scholarly project mentor.
    • Preliminary Internal Medicine Application:
      • Similarly, we only require 2 letters: 1 clinical letter of recommendation from an IM faculty + 1 clinical letter of recommendation from any specialty.
  • ECFMG certificate (if applicable), with 3 months of supervised U.S. clinical experience preferred.
  • For the 2023 ERAS® cycle, our program will be participating to receive information from the supplemental ERAS application offered through the AAMC’s ERAS program. Applicants will be required to complete the MyERAS application, and participation in the supplemental ERAS application is optional. In its second year of use, the supplemental ERAS application is designed to help students share more information about themselves and assist our program in finding applicants that fit our programs’ setting and mission. There is no cost to applicants and participation is optional.
    • The supplemental ERAS application includes:
      • geographic preferences (by region and by urban or rural setting);
      • information about their most meaningful experiences and other impactful life events, if applicable; and
      • program signals.
    • Initial invitations to access to the supplemental ERAS application will be delivered on August 1st. The supplemental ERAS application must be completed between August 1st and September 16th at 5:00pm ET.
  • Please note Advocate Aurora is committed to the safety of its patients and employees and requires that all team members be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of employment. This requirement applies to all residents and fellows.
