Salary

For the academic year 2022-2023, the annual salaries are:

Resident Benefits

Vacation: Residents receive four weeks of vacation per year. Vacation times are set prior to the academic year and accommodated based on request. Vacation may be taken in two-week blocks in the PGY-1 year and in one, two, or four week blocks in the PGY-2 and PGY-3 years.
​​Education Resources:
  • ​Medical Education Fund: Residents are able to apply for reimbursement of up to $365 during the PGY-1 year and up to $540 for the PGY-2 and PGY-3 years. Qualifying expenses may include: books for educational directed learning, conference registration/ travel, medical equipment, and apps for electronic devices (with approval from the program director). 
  • Categorical residents receive the current version of MSKAP at the start of their PGY-1 year 
  • Categorical residents receive membership to ACP, which includes a paper and electronic subscription to the
    ​Annals of Internal Medicine and ACP Journal Club.
  • Each resident receives a digital device at the start of their PGY-1 year
  • Each resident receives an annual subscription to Up-To-Date
Medical Information Resources: Residents are given in-hospital and home access to all online and in-print Advocate library services including: UpToDate, PubMed, Cochrane Library,  Harrison's Online, Medline,  Ovid Full-Text Journals, and endless individual journals (NEJM, JAMA, JACC, etc.)
Health and Disability Insurance: Residents receive comprehensive healthcare, dental care, and vision care coverage. Residents may choose any insurance plan offered by Advocate Aurora Healthcare. Individual coverage is subject to a nominal monthly charge.  Residents may elect to cover immediate family members (dependants) as well. A Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is also available if desired. Resident insurance coverage is effective on the first day of employment. It is imperative that healthcare coverage is present if not obtained through Advocate Aurora Healthcare.
 
Disability insurance is provided at no cost to the resident and all residents are automatically enrolled.

Life insurance coverage equivalent to one year’s stipend is also provided to the resident at no cost.​ Optional life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment available at discounted rates
Malpractice Insurance: All full-time residents are covered at 100% for any and all malpractice claims. 
Moonlighting:  PGY-3 residents on non-admitting rotations are eligible to moonlight. Available shifts include the general medicine floor on Saturday 7PM to 7AM, MICU on Friday and Saturday from 7PM to 7AM, and NCCU all nights from 7PM to 7AM. All moonlighters must have an active permanent IL medical license, controlled substance license, DEA license, and be in good academic standing. 
Retirement Benefits: Residents have the option of investing a portion of the gross salary into a 401k retirement account. Advocate will match employee contributions up to 3%.
